Brought a wild red tail last june it came at 3 inches in length in a little fish bag i put it straight into my tropical pond.i got in and caught it the other day and it measured 29 inches!!! One year and its grown 26inches ive never seen a fish grow so fast for me!
Yeah im sure aligator gar and arapaima grow quicker and id love to own one of each one day.it just shocked me when i caught and measured my catfish.his just smaller than my vundu who im guessing is around 3 or 4 years old.i was looking for a red tail off aquarist classifieds and many where for sale at the 2 foot mark and couple of years old so guess they get stunted growth right from the start in smaller aquariums
The risk is low but not a zero that your RTC will prey on your vundu. Vundu's slim and may fit in RTC's huge mouth. Most RTCs appear placid but some for some reason turn into killing machines. Appears to occur mostly in close quarters though - another factor in your favor.
