hey guys im about to upgrade. should i get a 1000 gallon tank with sump stand and lights for $1500 or 2 220g tanks with everything in them for $1100? im tempted to get the 1000 gallon but wouldnt it be harder to maintain it and if the sump system ever leaked wouldnt i pretty much have to sell the 1000 gallon? im having a hard time picking which tanks to upgrade to lol.

Both prices are cheap, especially the 1k. If there are no issues and you have the space and income to do a 1k tank and maintain and stock properly then go that route.

What is included in each setup. Are they glass, acrylic, fiberglass? What condition. What are you upgrading from?

I agree. Assuming you can get the tank in your home, if you have the proper flooring and room for the 1,000 gallon, that would be my choice.

Threads like this make me ashamed of my aquarium. Lol. My 220 was over $3000.

Anyway, it really depends solely on what you want to keep. If you're into stuff like cichla, arowanas, rays, clown knives, large cats, etc., then the 1000 gallon will definitely be the way to go. 220's are a bit limiting when it comes to keeping "true" monster fish, but if you're only planning on keeping smaller species (say, anything under 20 inches or so, depending on species) the the 220's could be a great choice.

If he thinking about getting the 1000 then he's already got space and money to keep it running for long term...don't even think to sell it back if thing went wrong or unexpected house moving/relocated :p otther than that I would get the 1000...small fishes in 1000 = NO PROBLEM. big fish in small tank...hmmm you all already knew the result :p

The primary reason I say two 220's could be great for smaller fish is because it would allow you to keep fish separately where there could be compatibility issues, or just to have to totally different setups with more flexibility. Then again, there are some fish that would probably just be better displayed in a tank that isn't outrageously large. Plecos, for example, which might rarely be seen up close in such a big tank.
