    Hinged glass top

I made a top like this for my 75 gal. A solid piece across the back and I split the front into 2 lids. I would recommend using 1/2" glass for the back piece, make it stiff. http://www.dendroboard.com/forum/parts-construction/57871-custom-silicone-hinged-glass-top.html

    FX6 Hose Upgrade

when i plumbed my canisters i used vinyl hose with the fiberglass mesh imbedded, you have to put the end in boiling water to soften it enough to slip it on the fitting, it seems to resist kinking and flattening better than typical vinyl hose. it is available at local ACE hardware, lowes, homedepot

What's up with my green sunfish?

I had a shadow bass that developed that, in almost the same spot. After approximately 6 weeks it stopped eating and died. When I examined it, the area had almost calcified and was brittle. The fish was 4-5 years old, the war mouth in the tank never developed it, and lived until about a year...

40 gal planted set up, specific questions

I have a 40 gal breeder that i am going to convert to a mineralized substrate planted tank. First some info I added a stone background to the tank (it is some sort of slate, I silicone it to the back of the tank on the inside a few months ago) here is a thread about the DIY background...

    Stone background

I am about a week in, no signs of any sort of toxicity. I had a minor bacteria bloom, lasted about 2 days, then cleared up. Unless I something goes wrong or there are any questions I will probably not post again.

    drilling my tanks

I have drilled all my tanks but 1 It is very easy: go slow continually spray water on it I like to use canister filters, I drill holes for 2 1" bulkheads and I like to use 1.5" overflows for my drip system, that way I can convert it to a sump if I ever wanted to.

    Stone background

Fish and plants have been in the tank for about 30 hours. Fish is acting normal, he even ate this morning. I will post again in a few weeks and give an update, but it looks like this stuff works out as a background. If I had to do it over again, I would put a bevel on the tile so that it can...

    Stone background

I would think that any type of termite treatment would be toxic to fish. To be clear what I installed is natural stone, it looks to be slate. I plumbed the tank and filled it up, here is final result. https://www.dropbox.com/s/rutitih5spywhim/2013-05-25%2016.03.25.jpg I will let the water...
