I've had red breasted sunfish, but not with live plants. Have never had bluegill though.

They are know to eat plants as part of their diet as needed. I suspect it depends how hardy and fast growing the plants are and how well they are fed as to how well they will co-exist with your plants.

Sorry to hear that you came up empty, but hopefully you had fun. Though my collecting trips have been local and much less expensive, I found half the fun was just being out there collecting.

Not 100% sure why, but I suspect husbandry errors, primarily water quality

It depends on where you are located as to what your native options are. There are numerous species that would fit a 36 inch bow front. What are you looking for out of a native? What interests you?

We are borderline at this point. It should be thick enough pending the body of water. I did stand on the ice 2 weeks about (with 6" of water under me) and it held but I generally don't go ice fishing unless it's about 6" thick or greater. Hoping to go in a couple of weeks.
