This fish drives me nuts. Appetite is worse than an oscars. If i dont feed the plecos and birchir like this they wont get anything.

When I had 3 large pearsei, I would attach a head of romaine lettuce to a weighted object and sink it one end of the tank. The pearsei would usually get distracted by that (one of their favorie foods) and proceed to chow down on it, and I could drop other things like pellets on the other end of the tank for other fish.
Kind of like the way I attach dandelions for the E suratensis.

Hey duanes

No luck i tried that (not a whole head)
I cant compare his eating habbits/appetite to any fish ive ever had. I thought oscars were bad but hes just a machine

I find (as cattle do), most vegetarian cichlids (like pearsei) need to constantly graze throughout the day to be satisfied to get the nutrients they need.
I would put a head of romaine in the tank in the morning, and it would be a skeleton by night. The suratensis I now have now, are very similar.

At about @ 3 years old they were larger than 14", and were the only 3 fish in a 150 gal, I moved them to a 300 rubbermade pond outside mid June. We had a cold snap, and it was all over for them. I expect they could have live much longer, as they had just started serious mating rituals that summer.

That is hilarious!!! I feel your pain.
I have a full grown synspilum and boucourti that never stop eating.
then i added a 30 inch chile arowana and he won`t let anybody eat until he is full which is never!! LOL
I also have some night time fish like you, L-25 and others so I feed them at night but unless it`s totally dark the arowana either smells the food or sees it, so now I feed the plecos at night with a pipe,
I put the food into the pipe and let it reach the crevasses where the plecos are and the arowana can`t reach, the other cichlids are still sleeping and it`s a pain but it works.
have fun!!

duanes duanes that sucks... wonder what the life expectancy would be for these guys

@terrors its a p.i.t.a but fun at the same time. I tried the night time feeding but the fat b@stard still gets most of the pellets.
