Yeah, as to the amount of light on the tank. Really can't tell you which way to go. Natural sunlight would probably be best though, if at all possible. I suppose you could experiment between 8, 10, 12, 14 hrs of light a day. Something has to trigger them. Adding black water extract might help a little as well. :)

Mark (Scat) added a BUNCH of Oak leaves, which turned his water really dark with tannins. His lents have dropped their tubes, so its possible we may see some young from him. That might be a key. He also has low pH and soft water. Think he feeds live foods as well.

Its very probably that you have to do a combination of these factors to induce spawning. If possible, keep a journal, cuz any info is most valuable. That female looks like she is definately ready!

i guess i've to seriously try the various combinations and see if any works..

thanks for the tips!!

btw, any idea regarding the difference in the size of the caudal spots (male's is much bigger than female's)??

really!?! cool!! so u like Singapore??

i got them from Cichlids Forever, a lfs which specialises in cichlids (obviously), and they do bring in stuff from jeff rapps once a while, so this pair could be from him? :)

i've heard so much about cichlids forever, but never been there personally.
if you don't mind me asking, how are the prices there?

singapore has a much more exciting fish scene there imho
but the US has more uncommon cichlids from my experience.
singapore is awesome for things like discus, arowanas, sting rays and planted set ups :)
