I actually discussed this a few days ago with a friend who claims to have dne the same thing around 10 years ago. He claimed the fish lived a year afterwards.

I'm wondering what the defect was? Something genetic, or just a byproduct of poor water quality. Talking about the video, not your friend.

I think this buoyancy issue may be caused by constipation which if not sorted within a couple of days via Epsom slats or similar laxative, can permanently damage the fish, thus the problem.
