on my 55 gal im puting a 20 gallon sump if i have my over flow at somthing over the pump is rated for ie 1000 and my pump is rated at 900 with my sump overflow
You should be fine with a 1000gph overflow and a 900gph pump.

i was curious because i wanted put dual intakes down to my sump and i didnt want it to over flow
You could put dual overflows that run to your sump. That is what most will recommend as a precaution in case one stops working.

Are the listed flow rates the rate at which a full siphon will flow?

Hello, I am in the process of plumbing my tanks.
I am going to run three tanks off one pump motor and a polybead filter.(total is 1000gallons).
Here is a list of the components;
1) one advantage polybead canister(filter) with a 8-way valve (10 head pressure)
2) 50 ft of 2 inch sch 40 pvc pipe
3) 40 ft of 1.5 inch sch 40 pvc pipe
4) 20 pvc 2 inch standard 90's
5) 6 pvc 2 inch tee's
6) 8 pvc 1.5 inch standard 90's
7) 4 pvc 1.5 inch tee's
8) the tanks are 5 feet above the motor(5 head pressure)

my motor is a 1/3 horsepower motor rated at 7300gph @ 3 ft head
or 3660 gph @ 17 ft head.

after doing some some reading I am concerned that my pump motor
is greatly under sized......I would like to reach aprox. 4000gph...

Any ideas??????

No need for a response... I talked to the companies and we
decided that a half horse power motor with high head capability
will work..they are going to exchange my motor at no extra charge..
only shipping fee's... it could of been worse......cheers

size _GPM __GPH
1/2 = 2.50 = 150
3/4 = 5.63 = 337.5
1.0 = 10.0 = 600
1.25=15.6 = 937.5
1.5 = 22.5 = 1350
2.0 = 40.0 = 2400
I have a couple of questions ;)

1/ Are these US or Imperial gallons?

2/ Are these inside or outside pipe diameter measurements?

3/ Would an internal pipe connection substantially reduce flow - i.e. an internal rather than an external elbow bend, the later of which doesn't chage the internal pipe diameter.

regards,
Richard
