Guys need help with this... my sons friend is doing a school project they have to set up a self sustaining tank. I gave him a 55gal with some dw and an hob all he has in the filter is biomax. Mech filtration im pretty sure isnt allowed. Hes allowed to do water changes which will mimic evaporqtion and rainfall. The following is what the set up looks like

Un heated tank

20 plants consisting of java moss, java fern, pennywort, amazon sword, wisteria, saggiteria, bana plant, and vallesneria

2 inches of organic potting soil capped with 1 inch of pfs.

4 otoclinus catfish and a few snails.

The plants are beginning to wilt im thinking there isnt enough nitrate to support them. Sooo what fish can he add ?

The goal is to creat a food chain amd have the tank run with minimum human intervention.

Need ideas on how ro create this food chain.

P.s. sorry for poor spelling typing this on my cell with my kids and wife harrassing me

Cheap and easy...2 dollars feeder guppies or rosy red :) or got some fancy guppies if he got some cash for his project.
*around here 1 dollar = 15 of those, so you might need more for 55G*
**Rosy Red do extremely well in unheated tank.
