Hey all. I was out at a LFS today and they had a tank with fish that are apparently called black ear catfish. The only information I can find on them is 1 they get big and 2 they come from Thailand. Has anyone heard of them? I want to pick one up if for no other reason than I've never seen one before. I am also contemplating a giant gourami @ 5". My main concern is my 7 inch silver. Any ideas?

Sounds like a batch of Pangasius larnaudi, relative of the paroon shark.I have two that are about four inches and they eat sinking pellets..pretty active too.

I am surprised someone has them. There is zero information on the interwebz about keeping them in aquariums. What has your experience with them been like?

I like them. They are active, don't bother the other fish, and are greedy lol. They compliment my paroon shark nicely.A few months ago some of the better shops in California had them and a few members were nice enough to ship some to me.You can look them up on planetcatfish.com....

Glad to hear that they are chill. I think I might try one in my community tank.

I think they do best in small groups rather than singly.Where is this shop located?

San Diego. Do they hang out on the bottom much? The bottom end of my tank is just about at capacity, and I wouldn't want to cause any undue competition.

My two do cruise around around but tend to spend most of their time on or near the bottom.
