Weird size tank... current top is multiple pieces (15+ years old...) and has crappy single tube lighting. No where near enough for plants and such.

I'd like a new hood/top - but due to the weird size, it isn't really available easily/cheaply.

Thinking I can take a piece of plywood, cut to fit, cut notches for filter, cut out a pair of squares to use 2 old 10gal tank hoods, treat appropriately (killz or some other primer?), and be good to go.

Yes? No?

If yes, what primer or paint is recommended? Obviously moisture exposure is a concern...

Personally I would use sherwin Williams water sealant paint for your hood, but if your going for plants, is recommend getting cheap t5 grow lights instead of stringing together hoods
