As long as you are certain that the products are 100% organic, biodegradable, and non-toxic, and do NOT contain any types of surfactants, perfumes, etc. - then it doesn't matter what species of fish is in the tank - these forms of non pathogenic probiotic bacteria are harmless to the fish.

Wow... Just wow.. So you're telling me that the $40 bottle of goop at the lfs is pointless, and if anything can cause bigger problems than it "claims" to fix/prevent and instead can be replaced by a $10 bag of organic septic tank cleaner??? That I get at my local bunnings??? That's just made my day. RD, you really give a new meaning to being 'Da Man'. :)

I'm a believer. I dosed my 180 several days ago, my water is the most clear it has been in a while. Also it seems to have done a good job breaking down the accumulated pleco poop that builds up between my weekly water changes. Tank smells less "earthy" as well. I used rid-x, btw.

I like that earthy dirt smell, smells like a healthy tank, I have never tried it but have fishy freinds that use, there biggest point is a reduction in gunk in the canisters and Hob Sponge media.

I have a huge trickle filter so I use my canisters as mechanical only, they get cleaned weekly.

Had shoulder surgery a month ago and didnt touch any ofy filters until this week but continue to do weekly wc's and dose with ridx. Stuff was a life saver only a slight clarity change in the 4th week of no maintenance. No way i could have gotten away with this without yhe ridx

I know a few folks that swear by the stuff, I have yet to try it and probably never well,
their big plus is reduction in sludge build up in there canisters, my water itself in the tank could not get any clearer, fish float on air per say. maintenance is maintenance, I am going to do it no mater what I add to the system.
