So the aquarium near me just refers to them as "snapping turtles" and I have no idea which type they are. They are about an inch long.

pics go a looooong way lol. they have fairly differing features but I'm no expert so I cant accurately describe to you how to tell
Common snappers have a smooth shell and alligator snappers have more of a spikey looking shell. Exceedingly easy to tell apart with pics. Doesn't matter which age or sex etc, always easy to tell
If you post pictures it would help. I can tell adults apart easily but babies are trickier, especially just from description. If you could get pictures that would be nice
