I have around 20 exodon in a heavily planted 29. There are otocinclus, SAE, and a African Butterfly with them. I think I've had them in a 29 for 3 years now.
At one time there were blue tetra and sillver hatchets with them. I think they are over-hyped for being aggressive. Drop a frozen blood worm cube in a tank with neon tetra and they act just the same. Tetra are tetra. Shy, skittish, and best in large schools. My 29 is so packed with plants that there are times I don't see any of them. How 20 3'' fish can completely hide in a 30" tank is pretty funny.
