I just pull out a filet knife.. and every fish I own listens and obeys to whatever my wishes may be. If I want stable colors I just look em in the eyes! lol all my fish have seen me filet a tilapia at least once.

We should take some time and start this thread again. I just reread it, it's very interesting.

My first it dat was 100% stable in my Cichlid tank. It just swam and no one bothered him. Poor guy got his swim bladder messed up and died a couple of years ago. My new dats in a tank with a fire eel and bush fish are always pale and the largest is always black. They all eat good. The black one is double the three smaller ones size. I never see him the other 3 swim around but are a little pale. The larger one was in the tank first. Then the 3 smaller ones were purchased. I wonder if he'll come around.

A fish that is normally stable like this (not any other Dat, this one) Dat goes unstable when there is a change in it's environment like the removal of the Oscar. The changed stressed it so now it goes black once it is used to its environment it will go light again if it doesn't like its situation for what ever reason a fish has for that it won't. So while you can go round and round about this test the theory by putting the O back for a while and see what happens or try the blood parrot idea.

I did a water change on my dat tank earlier and after I was finished I watched as one of the split bars literally went from almost pitch black to bars on a creamy background in the span of a few seconds. It was like watching a chameleon.
