I just thought of another alternative - I will simply pull out the bio media out of the 2262's and put them in their own 5 gallon bucket with tank water, an airstone and a small heater - that should keep them "alive" for 24-28 hours :). Don't know why I didn't think of that sooner....

Any reason you couldn't do this same thing in the canister as I had already suggested?

There really is no room in the filter for an airstone and heater with water - it's packed with media....
Still not really sure how a 5 gallon bucket is any different than the media reservoir of a 2262, but if a 5 gallon bucket works for you then 'go to it'

Not sure I quite get what your saying? I have 5 liters of efimec, 4 inches of poret, and then approx 6-7 liters of bio - the 2262 is pack full of media. I am only concerned about the bio media. How are you suggesting I add an airstone to a fully packed 2262?

How were you planning to set it up using a 5 gallon bucket?

This is what I was thinking: I would remove the bio media; place an airstone, or 2, at the bottom of the canister; refill about 25% of the bio media; lay a heater on top of that layer; fill the rest of the media on top of the heater; fill canister with tank water; turn heater and air pump on.

Simple - just pull the mesh bag of 7 liters of bio media out of the 2262 and put it in a 5 gallon bucket filled with tank water an airstone and a heater...
