Beside Vieja, they have been in the genus Paratheraps, and long ago, Cichlasoma
and many of the species look very similar.
Could be Vieja/Paratheraps zonatus, coatzacoalcos, guttalatus, or any hybrid cross of any of the above or more, especially of it was from a LFS.

He still looks a bit thin in this shot. The state of one fish doesn't guarantee the state of another- could it be bullying him and/or swiping his food? How much is he getting?
