ordering the pump, overflow some other stuff tonight guys. Need some thoughts on other things besides plumbing for the little 20 gal practice sump

Filter sock 7 inches or 4 ? I'm guessing it wont matter probably better off with 7inch

Sock holder was thinking of using an eggrate. Was thinking I could silicone a piece of glass on each side of the sump to make a ledge and lay the eggrate on top of that.

Anyone have an idea how I can do a magnetic sock holder ? Gonna search youtube now.

any good ideas on the return to the tank. Loc line ?

was thinking I could go with this. Don't really wanna spend allot (theres a bichir I'm scheming on getting lol)
it looks like its barbed I could cut that part off and attach to pvc ?

I just ordered the DCT6000, eshopps pf800, filter socks, and some cheap crappy return nozzle.

Gonna use eggcrate to make the sock holder.

all I need now is the plumbing. Unless I missed something.

As for plumbing
1 length of 1 inch pfc and 1 of 3/4
Cement
1 valve
1 or 2 ball valves (needed ?)
1 gate
unions - not sure how many I'm thinking 1 near the return nozzle for when I have to dismantle the system, 1 at the pump, one near the filter sock so I can easily disconnect it to clean the sock. the over flow comes with a bulk head but do I need a union at the over flow too ?

a few 90 degree elbows....

anything else ?

Some questions about installing the plumbing.

gluing each side of the unions to the pipes but is it ok to just hand tighten the unions ?

Yes. Hand tighten unions and bulkheads. All these threaded PVC fittings--think like you want to tighten just enough that it doesn't drip water. Don't ever overtighten, like you would with metal pipe fittings.

As for what PVC fittings you'll need--only you can tell when you start running the plumbing. Plan on 3-4 trips to the hardware store.

Consider you planned well if you completed in 3-4 trips...LOL.

I had a last minute change and wanted to add a Union. I drove 1.5 hours round trip to find the same union brand/style, in the size required so my unions all looked the same...crazy I know.

I keep going over the plumbing in my head trying figure where a union, vlavle, etc would go lol

Do i cement pvc to the the overflow ? That will adhere right ? Then a union to the sump.

I missed what type of overflow you are going with if it's a hob overflow I used rubber abs couplings to hold the pvc in placejus so I can re use the bulkheads for my bean animal overflow

As for the driving 1.5 hours to have everything look the same I do the same thing or end up paying 3-5 dollars a fitting more to have them all look the same. It drives my girlfriend nus!
