A friend of mine had gotten about 1"x3" pieces of metal and drilled a hole dead center. Then drilled a hole in the center braces and bolted the metal to the center braces. So you can swivel the metal over the tops but when you need to open the lid you just spin it parallel with the center brace. I don't have a pic but do you follow what I'm laying down?
