Putting in a sump inside a 75 gal to make bigger sump ?

i'm setting up a 300 gal tank and trying to find a sump for it, i know everyone is going to say build your own, but i have this idea

I would take a 75 gal tank and and drop this sump inside it to make a bigger sump

this sump is too samll for my needs, i want to to add lots of bio and heater and i have room for a 75 gal tank under my tank. i would drill the end of this sump and then route the water to my needs once it hits the 75 gal. Let me know if this is a bad idea. i know its not the cheapest route, but i cant find a sump that is big enought and i really dont feel like building a whole sump from scratch. i would obviouse glue this sump down and use acrylic walls to route the water in the 75 gal.

planning to use two eheim inside pumps for return , i think they do 900 gph , plus 2 Fx 6 filters.

Order filter sock holders and put them on one end of your 75. Put the return pump on the other and the media and heater in the middle. One of those returns will be fine. 2 fx6's will be sufficient for biofiltration. You can use your sump to grow elodea or pythos for nutrient reduction. You can also use it as a deep sand bed.

Maximum Reefs in CT does custom sumps and there is a guy called reefomania in NYC who does custom sumps too. Custom sumps are more of a saltwater thing because people want seperate compartments for things like auto top off water and bubble traps for skimmers. It isn't really necessary in saltwater and less necessary in freshwater.

The only difference between using you tank and filter sock holders and the sump in the link are baffles. People use it to direct water, control the water leverl in the skimmer chamber (saltwater) and not to get micro bubbles in your tank (saltwater and still not necessary). I personally would rather have a tank then a pre fabricated sump. You will get more room and can use it as a grow out.

Yes it will work. I have done similar things with storage bins. If you google image cu455 sump or cu455 refugium you can see some of my setups.

Last u remember their sumps start at 1500. I thought about gettinv one too untill i took the time to learn about sumps and other members pointed out the flaws or waste in their sumps.

Imo its nothing special more like a waste and probably the same amount of work in setting up his 75 as a sump
