This was a story i heard on uk radio today. A small goldfish was in a community tank in a care home but one of the carers watched as one by one, over the space of a few months all the fish died except this solitary fish. She was planning on leaving the care home but couldn't bear what would happen to the little fella so she took it home to her husband on the day she left. Soon after they noticed a lump on the fish and it just kept growing and growing until the fish was struggling to swim. The husband took the fish to an exotic animals specialist vet, a 200 mile round trip. It cost the man £200 for the specialist vet to remove the tumour which weighed 30 grammes (maybe a result of prolonged exposure to nitrate in it's original tank). The goldfish was also 30 grammes when weighed after the op so the growth was as big as the fish! The goldfish survived the op and is now thriving with it's new owners who spoil the little fella rotten after it's ghastly previous life.
