I just say this because they can be skittish and break their backs easily as I'm sure you know, 24" width doesn't give lots of room for when it gets scared, they also aren't very flexible fish as I'm sure you noticed by now

Yeah I have raised many gars. The only species I have not kept was true spotted gar. As far as skittish this one is counter to the typical shortnose rep. My Cuban gar was more skittish then this guy. I actually have not had it get scared once. Once the big tank is in it will be nice.

One thing is if they have too much room they can not know where they are and think they have more room and hit the wall if spooked. It is kinda a touchy thing with them. I have had gars that were 12" in a 180gal break their backs. Yet raised the same sized gars in a 40 breeder without issue.
