Been growing this guy out for a year and he is beginning to really grow on me. I was wondering what you guys thought... Male or female? I was leaning towards male. He is approx 8-12 inches. Eats anything. Truely a wet pet. He is in a 340 gallon

The day I got him (old)

Very nice!
RTGG are a bucket-list fish for me.
Didn't you try to sell this "guy" at one point?

Not this particular one. A while back about a year ago a buddy of mine had s 600gal he had to sell and gave me several Giant gourami about 3 white ones and two Red tail. I traded away/sold all (as I told him I would have to do be lcause no way I had space for all of them) and then when I got my 340 decided to get a small one from a LFS to grow out myself.

Thanks man! Yours ain't too shabby either...a lot nicer than I would have guessed a female would look. I always assumed they were mostly grey with little to no red finnage. Yours seems to still have the red fins going for her. Although I did notice mine has a black dot near the tail and yours does not? Wonder if this determines male or female?? Not too sure. Wonder why.

Maybe onto something with the back dot...i assumed both mine were female, maybe not tho as my smaller one clearly has the dot... never paid 2 much attention to notice lol... interesting. i wonder if the dot fades/breaks up as females grow and males keep it.
