Moosemj isn't right! My retics at least my females are about 4 years old. My male is about 3 years old. One of My female is on her third pregnancy right now.
I bought them all captive bred so I was already ahead of the game. They are not the easiest to care for in the fact that they are crazy picky eaters. I had a very hard time weening them off from live blackworms. I have had to mix what I wanted them to eat with the live blackworms after actually starving them for a bit. They now eat ghost shrimp, frozen raw shrimp, red worms, and found out just this morning they will eat frozen bloodworms, and of course live blackworms. Of the foods they will eat they are voracious eaters and fight over the food. I do have one female that will eat hikari carnivore pellets, but that is it.
They make great pets and interact with me quite well. I do 50 percent water changes on the tank 2 times a week. The tank is 240 gallons. I think my females are maxed out at about 14 inches in diameter. I have been told they can live up to 20 years and I plan on keeping them that long.
Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have.
