They are definitely pindu, I kept and breed them first time about 15 or 20 years ago, and then again about 5 years ago. Wild or not one of my favorites, a great fish keep, but they need lots of space once they mature. Mine really started getting hard on each other at about 7", so I kept them in 6 ft tanks, where they regularly spawned.
First time I got them was from a guy in Albany NY.
MFK member Matt (dogofwar) was breeding them not too long ago.

I find all the cichlids of Lake Barumbi mbu to be fascinating.
Also had a spawning group of Saratherodon linnelli.
and some Konia, and Stomatepia marine.
The real kicker of me would be to get Stomatepia mongo, but I believe that might be in another lifetime.

Or maybe not. Try to find it if you want it.. this is the life you should get the. Next life time you might not keep fish
Where I live now, cichlids are an everyday part of the menu, a friend of mine fried up a few dozen Cichla (peacock bass) the other day, add to that the birds crocs and caiman, a cichlids life is often very short here.
Peacock bass are the only freshwater fish my buddy will eat, he loves the, to me all the cichlids I've had taste pretty much the same, or at least close to something like perch from the great lakes of the US. A nice white, flakey, flesh.
Except maybe Tilapia, which sometimes get a little on the muddy side, depending on conditions.
