My Crawfish tank is bare glass bottom at the moment I want to add some substrate but I'm not sure what would be best I don't want fishtank gravel so it's either dark river pebbles or white sand. I just want something that would be best for him.

I think sand would be best. Sand is best for most inverts according to most people

If you can find a fine (small) nature river pebbles then your tank look much more nature and fit with crawfish.

I'm surprised your crayfish are doing okay in a barebottom I know in my reef tank barebottom my hermits were having a hard time getting around, I like sand but it's your personal preference. IMO sand is the easiest to clean. All you have to do is siphon or stir up the surface but with river stones or anything that's not as fine as sand things tend to get caught in all the nooks and crevices being harder to clean. To the crayfish either or is fine as long as water quality is kept high

Sand or u can collect small stream gravel if u rinse it,I would also add dead leaves that have been soaked in water for a while, use nontoxic plant varieties,as this worked for my giant blue piebald crayfish
