Instead of painting the bottom why don't you place a piece of cushion floor under the tank?
That way you can choose any design and colour you want.
I have a dark slate tile effect under mine

I have tried putting something under it. I currently have 2 layers of foam. one cut to the size of the stand and one cut to fit between the braces on the bottom of the tank. it's just I don't like it. I've seen tanks with a painted bottom and it just looks so much cleaner
