    Sand... Do u vacuum it?

On tanks that I use finer sand in I used a larger than normal suction tube(a 20oz bottle with the bottom cut out), and fitted a ball valve on the hose to adjust the flow of water. Works like a charm, looks a little ugly though.

Where Should I Go Next With My Aquarium?

Personally I would go with the driftwood and stones route. I used the bottom of a dead cyprus tree in a 125g and it looked great. Just whacked of what I needed with a bow-saw(chain saws can leave oil residue from the bar oil) and trimmed the roots to fit the tank. I soaked it in a clean barrel...

    New fish arriving!

Thank you. I think this site is amazing! I have so many ideas running though my head right now my wife is about to kill me. She did like the idea of me getting her own 90g tank full of angels though. Bribery works sometimes.

    some stand advice please!!

For all the stands I build for large tanks I prefer to use a piece of 3/4 or thicker ply on the top of the stand to help support everything. I just use standard as opposed to treated because of the chemicals in them. But as for your question, I would definitely make sure the tank is completely...

Forget Play Sand, Use Pool Filter Sand

If anyone is interested give this product a try. It's UNIMIN quartz sand size 2040. It can usually be picked up or ordered from a masonry supplier. I like it for many reasons. It is cheap @ $10 for a 50lb sack, it looks very natural compared to pool filter or play sand which can be too much of...

NEVER release an aquarium fish into the wild.

A couple of years back a fisherman caught a fish that he swore was a piranha at the tail end of the Albemarle sound. It turned out to be a 14" Pacu. People don't understand what these fish can live in and the damage they can cause. I will however, have to lay a lot of the blame on unscrupulous...

What is the best automatic fish feeder?

I use Eheim also. I have an old feed air model that works great. Some folks say they have a problem with moisture getting to the food, but mine has been working fine for over 3 years.
