Asian river "biotope" with crazy flow

This is a picture I took of a river in Borneo that I saw hill stream loaches in! Obviously the water is flowing relatively fast, and it felt really COLD. It was in the Crocker Ranges (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crocker_Range) if you're after more info.

    Indian travel advice?

Thanks :) I'm super excited! Basically we fly into Kolkata, and then a little over 2 months later, we fly out of Kathmandu! The people I'm travelling with really want to see a lot of the North. Although someone I know just returned from India said the North wasn't that great. A lot of poverty...

    Indian travel advice?

I got a text from a friend the other day. Along the lines of 'let's go to India'. Got home from work and booked a flight... So now I'm off to India and Nepal for 2 months later in the year! Any advice?

    Cures for an epic hangover?

It was a 21st and there was free booze...need I say more? I've had bad hangovers before, maybe it's the fact I had to work which made it so bad, I spent the whole day at work in and out of the toilet throwing up. Anyone have any miracle cures for the nausea? It's killing me! (And before...

My Tiger shovelnose swallowed my figure eight puffer...

Normally puffers (marine ones at least) are deadly poisonous. Hence nothing eats them. Apparently the poison is a result of what they eat in the wild. In captivity APPARENTLY they loose their toxicity. So maybe the cat fish will be fine. Purely based conjecture from what I've heard. I...

Do we believe this facinating story?

Not a chance in hell this is legit. I think he murdered the kid he was with, freaked out and thought the only way out of it was to make up this story and have the kid did in the story.

    Post "blind cave" fish here!

There's a blind cave cichlid in Africa. Not much is really known about it though.

    Deadly animals...

I found a blue ringed octopus just the other week down at the beach! Beautiful little critters. Inland taipan (to my knowledge the MOST potently venomous snake in the world) should be on there, and the Sydney Funnel Web spider (again, to my knowledge, the deadliest spider).

Jewel cichlid maturation and colour change!

Thanks Rafini, my guess was female, it's a pretty stocky fish, not at all slender :P I'll try to get a side profile photo later. As for tank mates it's in with yellow tail Congo tetras and an African butterfly fish. Haven't seen any aggressive behaviour yet!

Jewel cichlid maturation and colour change!

Thanks, it does show a fair bit of colour for a solo cichlid. Any idea on the sex anyone?

Man Undergoes Extensive Plastic Surgery To Look Like Justin Bieber

How the hell does a doctor approve that? Plastic surgery needs some serious rule changes. No one in their right mind gets that sort of work done.

What is one thing you love about cichlids?

Cichlids are a obviously an incredible group of fish. With no doubt almost every aquarist keeping them at some point. So. From the smallest of small to the largest of large, from shell dwellers to Dovii's. What is ONE thing for that you love about cichlids? For me it's the intelligence...

    new 17 gallon set-up help

IMO none of these options are going to work. The tank is just too small. Why not look at shell dwelling cichlids? Or South American dwarves?

    new 17 gallon set-up help

Wouldn't recommend it. Neon tetras need soft acidic water. Brichardi need hard alkaline water. Also the tank is too small for brichardi.

    About Fish Behavior?

Sounds like illness to me. Does the fish have clamped fins at all? Often sick fish will hang at the surface and make a bit of swimming motion. That, coupled with the fact that the fish is showing scratching behaviour (known as flashing I think) sounds like sickness.
