    Most striking medium sized cichlids?

Crenicichla "pike cichlids" are a favorite of mine, and can work in a 100-150 just fine. Here are some of mine There are many species, these are "sp Venezuela", some are more colorful. Prefer lower pH, neutral is probably OK for most species

    Can I keep Vieja with.......

This is great advice, I would also add that you can remove your existing fish into temporary tanks for a while, redo the decor/scape of your pond, and then reintroduce the fish all at once (GT, Jag, plus Vieja) for a better chance at success. It may help to have some tough smaller cichlids as...

    Nicarraguan cichlid problems?

Nicaraguense seem to be hit or miss in terms of aggression. I have had some pretty aggressive males. Compared to some CA cichlids like amphilophus they are pretty calm, but I would consider them a bit pushier than most South Americans. That said you do have a large tank and this may just be...

    Green Terror in 55-Gallon

Those get a bit large, but take a look at belenosox belizanus, you could keep one in a 55 with some small CA cichlid like nanoluteus Myrnae etc. I had a few years back in a 5 foot 80 gal, they are aggressive to each other and only one lasted, but that one lived for years and was very cool fish.

    100 Gallon Oscar Tank

I think you will have no problem with Sajica in a 75 gallon, in my experience they are pretty mild for CA cichlids. You could potentially keep some other fish as well. My largest fish in my 48x18 is a male Sajica, but the smaller pair of chetumalensis runs the show.

    Crenicichla reclassified

Browsing my old copy of Dr Axelrod's Atlas, it is interesting to see how many of the names have changed over the years. I can barely keep up with reclassifications, but this is an interesting read nonetheless.

    Black Nasty Cichlids

Male, female, or pair, these guys need a 6 foot tank, imo. A male or pair will need a 180, lone female could probably get away with a 125.

    75 gallon community question

I think it's a bit heavy, convicts tend to be a bit meaner than the other species as well. I would go for 5 convicts with the swordtails ,or a group of fire mouths with the swords. Or, I would do a pair of blue acaras, then you could do a variety of South American tank mates.

    Isthmoheros tuyrensis

Very cool Duane, thanks for sharing. I would tend to agree with your ID, they definitely don't look like Lyonsi to me.

Hello everyone, It is halfway thru the month and I have not received any entries for Tank of the month. I will be cancelling the contest this month. I also am strongly considering calling it off for good. It seems that this was very popular up until a couple years ago, but the site's traffic...

    Cryptoheros "chetumalensis" (spilurus) "rio sarstun"

Nice, good luck raising them to adulthood. I have a small group of these as well but mine are not spawning. I do have them with several larger cichlids, which may be why.

    Dead monster...

Wow, one of my favorite species, this guy was a bruiser for sure. Sorry you lost him, it always sucks when something like that happens.

Tank size for Oscar and Pleco

125g is great for an Oscar and a place. You may be able to do the two oscars with increased maintenance.

    Female barred midas tank requirements

I agree with the others, a 48x18 at least would be best for long term. A 50g or 36x18"ish good until the fish is about 6"

Hello MFK, I just wanted to pop in and give an update for anyone wondering where the TOTM contest is this month. This has been a very busy time for me, my career has taken a positive turn, which is nice, but has left me with barely any free time. Coupled with some difficult family situations...
