    Lets see those yawns!

Lutjanus argentimaculatus. Common name is Mangrove Jack. A species that attains around 1m in length and does well in both fresh and salt. ;)

    Lets see those yawns!

Some favourites I have posted before but I guess there is no harm in sharing again. Not all are cichlids. ;) A 100% crop/zoom of the image above to show the detail more. Open the image up to view at full Resolution.

Lutjanus argentimaculatus - The Beast Of The Mangroves

Thanks but I think many would actually pass on such an awesome species as it takes a different sort of dedication to devote a large tank to just one fish. ;)

What is your favorite fish in your current stock?

He'd be around the 26" mark now. Maybe a touch more?

    Dovii family update

Looking good and yes - shoot horizontal so it fills out the frame for sure. ;) I am always telling my partner to shoot horizontal. She has a bad habit now though of starting vertical and switching to horizontal while filming which puts everything on its side. lol. She is halfway there.

    Plywood/Glass build question

As long as the tank is braced correctly with no deflection, it is the height that determines the thickness. I'd use 12mm plate glass all day long at 30" of height. What's that - 1/2" in that backwards measurement you guys still use across the pond? :D

    Plywood/Glass build question

To add to Rivermuds comment. Remember that the calculations needed to work out your safety factor/glass thickness is from the the bottom of the unsupported glass to the top water level. Anything under the unsupported glass is irrelevant assuming that the plywood or that part of the tank is solid...

Setting up the 1000 gallon Bowfront.

I would prefer more footprint than height but this is an outstanding attraction none the less. Will look superb once finished!

    Plywood/Glass build question

There have been builds with glass on both front and sides. One in particular that had the glass panels joining in the corner like an all glass tank with the timber frame top and bottom from cvermeulen. Personally, I would just do the side window just like you would do the front one. It would...

So who has the oldest, LEAK free, plywood tank?

Actually, I first filled mine in 2009. I have never experienced any leaks, bowing, any fatigue or any problems for that matter. It is still is in the same condition as the day I first filled it up too and I expect many more years from it. The best aquarium outlay I have ever made! ;) The...

    Stupid Tank Maintenance Mistake!

Always check the internals. Many canisters come with very little bio media and need extra to fill them up. Lesson learned though so I dare say you'll never make that mistake again?

Some questions about Midas Cichlid ?

One should be fine. Even if you have to use a divider to get them acquainted and used to each other.

What do you believe is cruelty or abuse when it comes to fish?

As for clipping the wings of birds like parrots, If it is done correctly there is no pain at all. Clipping should not be done so the bird cant fly at all and just drop to the ground. It should be just enough removed like the main flight feathers so the bird can still fly but it just can't gain...
