    I'm done with canisters

    Sumps are the only way to go; reef people know their stuff. Once I tried my first sump I'll never use any other form of filtration on any large aquarium [50G and above].

    The best way to soften water is to invest in an RO unit. It's expensive, but it will pay off in the long run.
