So my mother in law saw my strawberry pot in my tank, and had to go buy one for her small koi pond. She picked one up from Home Depot. It has this weird black stuff inside it, and she wants to know if it is fish safe. I've never seen it before, so I figured I'd ask here. Thoughts?

Yeah that pretty much makes the marketplace inaccessible to anyone not living in a densely populated area like socal. What a bummer.

I have a Vieja Zonatus cichlid that is approximately 12". He's perfectly healthy and close to full length. I really like this fish, but I just want to do something different with the tank. He's free if you come get him, or I might deliver in Linn County for a fee. I am in Lebanon.

My dovii used to do this all the time, but the older fry would always eat the younger ones and/or the parents would eventually eat the older ones if I didn't separate them.
