    Aimara tank mates

I have had a go with a couple of aimara. One I did try with a group of SD's, was ok for a period then one day they were attacked and killed. The one I still have was kept alone in a 180 up to about 16"-18" then into a 300, now about 24". I have had success with fast large fish, currently three...

    Pleco Dietary Thread

Great thread and I have already changed the way I feed my plecs based on this thread. What is considered a high % of protein in an algae pellet?

I completely agree. It's a nutritional point really. I used to feed 'clean' meat products, i.e fish fillet, I now buy hole fish and they get meat, bone, guts and all. I was going to start a thread on this. I have expearenced it with a couple of large fish. I now include pellets either inserted...

Thanks, it was more a question around whether a Venezuelan exporters would be exporting something from Argentina or Uruguay for example. The distance from capture to exporter would be large. I guess the question is whether a Venezuelan exporter would be exporting australis or intermedius.

Pretty much everything, have a similar feeding schedule to you, generally mussels, squid, chunks of various fish including bones, organs, fins etc. Mine also usually gets 2 or 3 massivour pellets on the gap days as I have fish I feed every day, I can't help feeding him.

I picked it up on the weekend. I had tried to get some pics of the underjaw through a clear bottom tank but the light was crap, visually I wasn't really able to see it, I fished it out aswell, still difficult. I suspect 4-5 pores. I am letting it settle and I will try and get some shots...

Typically not no. Viewing the many images on the web they do seem to vary but most are pointed.

I have possibly viewed every image of australis on the web . As much as I try to convince myself otherwise unless Teres looks remarkably like australis, I think it's Australis. It's a shame, was hoping it would be Teres. I'll still grab it, still a great wolf to bring home and I'll get a...

The more I look the more I think australis. The under jaw just looks a bit more angular. I need to get a clear shot to count the pores. I think I am counting 38 lateral line scales.

Its somewhere between 10"-12". I'll have to wait to get it home for the pore count and better pictures. I do kind of see you point on Australia. I have spent the afternoon going through many images, i do think it's different. I could be wrong of course.

Visited my lfs this weekend. I need to wait for payday to collect it. Visually it defiantly looks different to Malabaricus. The pictures don't real show the colour very well and not crystal clear as taken on the phone but here goes.

Thanks, could you point me towards where in the doc it states that, just had a quick read of the mbigua taxonomy doc. Looking at the 'comparative material examined' it refers to Hoplias teres from lake maraciabo, Venezuela. http://www.lillo.org.ar/revis/zoo/59-1-2/04.pdf

Yes still with three of the Brycon. The red tail did get tagged and died with a fairly substaincial injury. He does go for the others but they seem to be able to get out of the way. The ATF died unfortunately with no marks, I suspect from being spooked and hitting the side. Perhaps a topic for...
