    Roach's Fishroom Nest

I find a lot of satisfaction in planning and working out these things. It's half the hobby for me. The frogbit is was started with 2 plants and spread around the room's 30 tanks. It is now finally at the point where I have started collecting from tanks and discarding. However, they do not over...

    Roach's Fishroom Nest

@FINWIN Thanks, been enjoying your thread as well. Part of the reason I started this @duanes Thanks. Really enjoy your cichlid and collecting posts! Here are some more pics of the plants I use to filter the tank. They have really been making a difference. Not always the most visually stunning...

    Roach's Fishroom Nest

No. A guppy breeder group I belong to. Glad they weren't. Although my floor was flooded and I lost quite a few fish valuable to me.

Collecting in the Rio Los Lotes

That nitrate thing still gets me. All water I have checked here, even algae ladened sluggish water that I would not put one of my fish in, usually turns out to be nitrate free. People under estimate how beefy their filtration needs to be.

Smashing tank. Love the layout! Nicely done. What size is it? What else is going in there?

    Birding!

That trogan looks like a stage prop made by a first year. I love it! How are the white eyes affecting the local fauna/flora? A bird that should be enjoyed more for their smarts but I just cannot due to their heavily invasive nature are Indian Mynahs. I have yet to visit a place that doesn't...

    Polypterus pen pal

From what I remember foot print of tank is much more important than height especially length. I have seen 18"-20" bichirs here kept in 90-100 gal tanks for years. They are not a super-active, swim-around using-all-space type of fish. But they do need it when they get a burst of energy or...

What are some of your ways to save money in the hobby?

This is a big one. I have also found if you make changes in the tank to decor, change filter position or anything that makes fish act differently, it's as good as adding new fish.

    Puppy's Name

So, stumbled on this thread looking for another. Gabby was such an awesome dog. She turned out to be a mix or a runt corgi. Not a social dog at all and had no interests except me and playing with balls and ropes. I got another Jack Russell when she was about 6 years old. He was adorable. But...

What are some of your ways to save money in the hobby?

The way I have saved monies: - Look at equipment you like. Study it, watch videos and see how people are modifying them. Then look for parts in hardware stores and build your own. Your first few will leak or not work exactly as planned but you soon get the knack of it. No matter your skill level...

    Polypterus pen pal

I like 2 and 4 above. I kept a few. The ornates (2) I kept were both chill. I never seen them bully except for a minor bump out the way to get food. But they are predatory and will hunt things that fit in their mouths. I really like the ancient look of the LJ species and del is one of my...

    HOB refugium?

No worries. I could have written much more clearly . Here are some rudimentary "flow charts" Sump is connected to 6 tanks. 3 on each rack A and B. Rack A was the first and plumbed into sump as a flow through rack starting at top left of rack and zigzagging down, exiting at bottom right. Rack B...

    HOB refugium?

No. I think my explanation was a tad unclear. The green hook is my water change pipe hooked up to the faucet and draining into the toilet. No connection to the refugium. On the rack are 3 equal sized tanks. On the far right and left, you can see a small guppy breeder box on each side. These...

    HOB refugium?

I have used these on 2 guppy tanks to see how it would go. I cannot say I have noticed a big difference with such an easy fish to keep. However, it did seem to benefit the tanks when I was gone for prolonged times as microbes breed there and flow into tank later. You can see them on the right...
