Try some guppy grass. I added a tiny piece month ago in dimly lit tank and it has taken off and spreading . Underrated neat plant that just keeps on growing.

I wouldn't add a pleco because even the smallest of pleco could eat them or their babies. At min stress them out so that the breeding you want is curtailed. If you want fish consider White clouds or small middle,top swimming fish but fish like plecos that hug ornaments which shrimp seek out...

You do not want to lose water so like others have suggested floating corkbark which is great. I use it outside in my water trough after Coura suggested it . Corkbark might be easier for turtle to lay on and completely dry himself on than floating log . You can't go wrong with it. Rocks,etc...
