Pleco bacteria causing fin rot? Possible?

Thank you to everyone for your input. Here is a progression of info in this case. I have had a total of 3 conversations (so far) with the customer regarding his tank and have had the opportunity to see the fish that died. It was definitely (in my opinion) a water quality issue. They...

Pleco bacteria causing fin rot? Possible?

Wow! Good to know! Would you recommend snails or another type of algae eating fish instead? I have noticed that GF are pretty big fans of algae themselves but people around here seem to be under the impression that every tank of fish in existence needs a pleco.... :-S

Pleco bacteria causing fin rot? Possible?

Ok, thank you for that information. I would not have thought of it. I have never seen them do that, though I have read about it happening.

EDIT: Sorry, not MY research. Research that I have found says that they can go down to 62 degrees.

Pleco bacteria causing fin rot? Possible?

I have found that plecos are fine with a wide range of temps, some of my research showing them to go down to 62 degrees without a problem. My tanks at the lowest are between 69 & 72.

Pleco bacteria causing fin rot? Possible?

That makes sense. Thank you for the input. For a little background on the situation: he had 2 angels & 3 goldfish (I have no idea of the sizes but he said he'd had 1 of the GF for 5 years) in a 10 gallon tank, then came to my shop (I have a small pet shop/LFS) and bought a 4" pleco (I did not...

Pleco bacteria causing fin rot? Possible?

I have had someone tell me that the bacteria that live on a plecostomus' skin can (and has for him) caused fin rot in his goldfish. I personally have kept goldfish and plecos together for years and have never experienced this. Is there any truth to this or is he trying to pull the scales over my...

That is what I was thinking, especially with the different species aspect. Haha. But, stranger things have happened.....and will continue to happen :-S Thank you!

    Can Swordtails and Mollies breed?

I run a small pet shop and recently had someone come in (willing to argue their point) and inform me that "lyre-tail mollies are a hybrid of swordtails and mollies". I was not aware that this was even possible. I have heard that mollies and guppies can breed and the same for platies and...

    freshwater anemone things????

In my oscar tank I have some itty-bitty, teensy-weensy anemone-looking things in the tank. When they crop-up so do a bunch of cobweb looking casings all over the tank. I have no idea what they are or what to search for online. They have cropped-up before and I have vacuumed the tank and...

    What am I?

Someone gave me this fish and I can't figure out what it is. He is about 5" long and is in a tank with 1 2.5" convict cichlid, 4 4-5" blood parrot cichlids, 1 5" green severum, 1 10" oscar, 1 5" oscar, and a 13" pleco. He usually gets along with everyone but will pick on the parrots occasionally.
