O/p's fish is male. Most males do get spangles, but not all. A few males get humps, but not all. Some females can sport spangling up to 7-8", but it's rare.

No such animal as a blue morph. Some can display a slight shade of blue depending on mood and lighting and the individual fish itself. Some have barring so thick that when in a mood that causes their bars/stripes to turn green to blueish/green, under the right lighting it can make them appear...

All Midas/Red Devils start out looking like your pics as fry. Some change some don't depending on subspecies. That's amphilophus for sure. Might just be Red Devils or Midas, but not Festae or Mayan.

No such thing as a blue morph. Grade A Festae bars can vary between black, green, turquois at any given time based on environment and stressors. This is normal mostly with females. The base color can vary as well depending on mood. Last 2 pics are the same fish. They all will get black barring...

I agree with Phlat-Phish-Da-Lion. I have owned many breathtaking females. But I have seen and owned some show stopping males that took a back seat to no one.

He is most likely descends from COA's original Ecuador pair. He certainly bears the profile of the offspring from them.
