In theory acrylic tanks should be supported fully underneath. So if you cut like a 3/4 piece of plywood and then put the tank on that it should work.

I build a rack of tanks using cinder blocks. Same thing will apply for making your stand really you'll just use more blocks front to back.

My guess is that the wide base is actually the top. The pillars support the top. I'm guessing it was to be a showpiece dining table at the restaurant.
