    Zebra Mussels for filtration?

Moon, You're a good guy and I swear I'm not picking on you or misunderstanding you. I think it's pointless to discuss keeping an animal banned from possession in all 50 states.

    Zebra Mussels for filtration?

Moon, I've not accused you of anything (aside from perhaps ignorance of zeb's potential to survive inhospitable environments). I never suggested you support release but I honestly don't see how anyone keeping them at home could not inadvertently put a drainage at risk. FYI...even keeping...

    Zebra Mussels for filtration?

Yeah Moon, you've already said people should not keep them yet you continue to doubt they could hurt anything.....on and on about other mussels being hard to keep and die backs to limited numbers...lack of this and so on.... Have you ever been to place they've taken over? Have you ever actually...

Feed for a certain FISH !

I have never had a NA catfish that would not eat sinking prepared food (pellets). In most cases they will not eat until the lights are off.

    Zebra Mussels for filtration?

I read you loud and clear Moon. I wish you would believe others about the ease of zebra mussels to spread. My customers that use natural water for cooling (primary metals companies) spend millions each year removing them from 36" pipes (and bigger) that carry process water. Keep in mind this...

    Zebra Mussels for filtration?

Moon, As I understand it, Zebras don't parasitise fish like other mussels we're used to. As said earlier, their larva are microscopic and I wouldn't be at all confident about not spreading them; unless you happen to distill all of your used tank water and autoclave anything that touches your...

    pic for pic

Hey mods, I think this belongs in the fishing forum. Hey Fiend...It's great you're into natives but this section is dedicated to keeping them at home. There is a whole forum just for fishing here.

Clash of the titans- Green Sunfish VS. African Jewel cichlid

Thanks for posting this. I've wondered the outcome of such a mix for a long time but got out "tropicals" long ago. A part of me is surprised.

    info/thoughts on northern pike

They grow "slower" than a lot of other fish??? Are you joking? I think you'll have a hard time finding a faster growing fish in North America. Do you have any source for the claim they have slow growth??? I don't understand why people would even consider Northern Pike when grass and redfin...

is any one can tell me where I can get those(RED sunfish ?)

There is great variability in color from population to population with longears. They will likely be split into several species in coming years. Don't expect run of the mill longears to look like the above photo.

how do i take care of these

Both mentioned madtoms do well in tanks. They are a catfish so they eat just about anything that sinks and stay hidden most of the time. Probably not going to find brindled madtom in feeder tanks but I'd guess tadpole madtoms are a possibility. Be careful when selecting catfish from feeder...

    Bowfin

Bowfin are obligatory air breathers and a minnow trap will kill them unless they have access to the surface. Young bowfin appear insectivorous in any case.

    Where to buy common natives

You won't find all that many native fish suppliers for aquarium hobby and very few of them offer sport fish as they generally too big for most home aquariums. I understand you want a NY native tank and when it was said earlier to go out and get your own...they weren't kidding. Some states allow...

    Pumpkinseed Sunfish

A lot of this is personal preference. Yeah 12" in 12 months isn't quite right but when young, they can easily put an inch a month on. I'm a big tank small fish guy or at least I can say that I like 55 gallon tanks minimum for pirate perch (people think I'm nuts and they may very well be...

    Question

Indiana is very accommodating to native fish aquarists generally speaking. What fish, where is it being transported and what will be done with it are the important questions. You should really check out Indiana code http://www.in.gov/legislative/ic/code/

    Pumpkinseed Sunfish

If you have the right size tank and feed quality foods in the right volume, you should expect 1 inch per month or two for the first year of life. Slows down a bit as they age. You could easily see half that if all the "right" things above mentioned aren't "right".

    Creek Tank

 That sums up sculpin at home unless you make a species only tank in a cool basement with good oxygen levels. I would say that "C" is the most common experience with sculpin.
