The Use of Probiotics in Aquaculture

Maybe I shouldn't be continually treating all 75 gallons, when I'm only changing 50-60% of the water... Probably overdosing. Going to cut the Rid-X down to every other water change and report back with results in a few weeks. Tomorrow, water change sans Rid-X.

The Use of Probiotics in Aquaculture

Didn't see any difference between powder and liquid, reading product descriptions. Used the liquid just out of convenience and ease of use. It seems to be working. The amount of debris caught in my filter media has decreased. I just keep getting bacteria blooms.

The Use of Probiotics in Aquaculture

been using Seachem Stability and Pristine (both contain beneficial bacteria) for about 6 months (dosing one cap full per 40 gallons, half the recommended maintenance dosage), and recently started using Rid-X liquid (the directions say 1 cup for 1,500 gallon septic tank, so I've been dosing one...

    Fresh fish food

One tank has a Red Devil (Midas. Hybrid. Whatever), a Jack Dempsey, and a couple of convicts. The other tank has an Oscar, three Red Head Tapajos eartheaters, five silver dollar, and a Pleco.

    Fresh fish food

Thanks. That's kind of what I was thinking. The nori should provide enough fiber... Plus, I feed them a variety of NLS pellets.

    Fresh fish food

I bought fresh shrimp, scallops, tuna and nori to make fresh frozen food for my new world cichlids. I've deveined the shrimp, but my question is, do I leave the shell, legs and tail on, or remove them? Raw, they are quite soft, and I imagine they have some nutrition. My worry is, the fish...

Thoughts on using raw fish meat as fish food?

Thanks. I hadn't considered that. Wild salmon is out. I'm in Florida, so I guess everything everything else should be alright... Did you really make over 800 posts in less than 3 months? Wow!!

Thoughts on using raw fish meat as fish food?

I came across this thread while researching a cheaper and more nutritious alternative to frozen blood worms (which are well over $10/lb, and mostly water). I have SA and CA cichlids. A combination of NLS Cichlid Pellets, NLS UltraRed Pellets, and NLS AlgaeMax Pellets make up the staple of...

    Stocking advice for a 75

I think two sevs and a sajica would work. Again, gotta do the water changes, but they are all generally peaceful (for cichlids), so you shouldn't have a case of domination, but it will be a slightly overstocked tank. I have a 75 gallon with a female RD, a male JD and three convicts. Some...

    Stocking advice for a 75

That's a strictly personal thing. If it were me, I'd probably keep the two Severums. The fish are probably peaceful enough that you keep all three, if you're willing to keep up with the water changes necessary.

    do parachromis' teeth regrow?

Most bony fish regrow teeth. GA Tech has been studying tooth regeneration in Cichlids specifically, though. http://www.devbio.biology.gatech.edu/?page_id=8699 https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/10/151019154108.htm

    Which Hikari Product is Best?

As far as Hikari, Cichlid Bio-Gold+ is the best. I personally feed my cichlids a combo of New Life Spectrum Ultra Red and AlgaeMax Pellets. If you compare ingredients, you will see that NLS is a better quality, more complete pellet than the Hikari. I also go with the idea feeding my fish two...

    High nitrites in tap.

+1 contact EPA and local water/environmental authorities. In the mean time, do smaller water changes more often. Adding 20 gallons (10% water change) of 5 ppm to 180 gallons 0 ppm will be far less toxic to you fish, and easier to handle for your biofilter than adding 120 gallons (60% water...

Single, hard water occupant for 200 gal

How Much Salt Per Gallon ?

For a typical freshwater tank, the recommendation is one Tablespoon per 5 gallons. So for a 240 gallon, that would be 48 tablespoons. A lot of salt. Don't spend the money on "aquarium salt". Use Morton Kosher Salt or Morton Canning and Pickling salt. Or, if you have the room to store it...
