You really should never go with a minimum tank size for any fish, the clues in the name chances are these "minimums" are worked out at just that a minimum ie no other fish and nothing in the display. Always try and double the minimum at least is best dfor the fish I think. My planned setup is...

Well I moved him about 3 weeks ago and he was eating fine, for the last 3 days he's been hiding in the corner and not moving. Today however he has started cruising the tank again, I use both kits for testing btw.

Yep 36x36 footprint 30 depth, looks huge in person, the pub it came from had a 33" giant gourami in there poor thing could hardly move in fact it broke the front panel that I've replaced and as you can see it holds water :D
