Ideas for keeping riccia fluitans down.

That bath sponge thingy is probably the best idea, though a little pricey for how much you get. I use fishing line. Take the rock in your left hand (or other non-dominant appendage), place a clump of riccia on top and secure with thumb. Take fishing line and hold loose end on underside of rock...

Debunked: CO2-Myth --- See tanks without carbon dioxide fertilization

I just discovered this Thread (yeah, I know, it's been a while since my last visit...) Stupidest thread in history. I cannot believe what I just read in the OP... Sure, fine, one can have a planted tank w.out CO2...just concentrate on growing Anubia, J. Fern, J. Moss, Swords and Crypts. Easy...

    DIY canister?

There is a Thread over on APC showing quite possibly the best DIY canister filter I have ever seen. I make no claims that there are none better, but this has to be up there for ease of assembly, cost and just sheer brilliance of design. Check it out!

First plwood tank build started..... with pics

A millimetre is 1/1000th of a metre...a mil is short for millilitre, 1/1000th of a litre. 1/1000th of an inch is a "thou". 40 thou is equal to 1mm...

    DIY overflow (hob)

Got myself in a spot of bother the last time I answered this Q, but my response is the same... Use the "Search" function. Plenty of threads dealing with overflows. Try keying "PVC overflow", or "DIY overflow".... If you have no luck (which you won't), there's always Google. Failing that...fish...

masone, that stream pic looks suspiciously like Freshwater Creek (although, I know it could be just about any stream in the region...). I'm in Sydney, atm, but will be back home on Saturday... Don't s'pose you'd like to reveal the exact location of that picture?? What size tank would suit the...

    my diy gravel vacs

Looks like a good basis for a DIY CO2 diffusor... Whack another PVC sleeve and barbed fitting on the other end, somewhere to hook your CO2 tubing to, fill with bio-balls (optoional) and plumb in-line with your canister outlet. Sweeeeeeeet! Nice work midnight!

    Toilet Water Changes?

All this talk of running one's tank water to the toilet, I'm surprised no-one's thought to just go with a glass cistern. Why waste all the time and money on plumbing from one room to another when you could just mount a 40L straight to the bowl, fill it with fish and do a bit of tranquil fish...

DIY Coil Denitrator (Step by Step walkthrough with pics)

I don't get it... They say to use non-bio filtered water, yet suggest using the return line from a canister....which is a bio-filter, yes? Or should one have a spare canister with no media, just to run the de-nitrator?? I have a well planted, well stocked tank and am currently having nitrate...

    Advice on stand construction

Your idea of 8, 10 or 12 x 2 is on the right track. 24" is a long distance to span... Could you incorporate some steel box section (say 4x2 or 6x2) into the build, maybe bolted in place and trimmed with thin skirting board to hide it, or even run it straight down the middle lengthwise?
