I haven't been around for a while. Here are a couple updates. The red isletas hasn't grown much. She's still at about 5" and laying eggs like clockwork. The midas has grown considerably to about 9-10". BTW, if anyone in Toronto is interested in the red isletas, contact me. I might have to let...

I kept all males together with a big red devil and the most dominant male had a big hump. Ever since I removed him from his brothers, his hump hasn't came back. Old pic:

Keep him. In the Toronto area they're about $50+ and very hard to find. Good deal if you ask me.

It's probably just your location. All of the Home depots that I've been to in Toronto, North GTA and East GTA carry them. Look in the electrical department.

I do it myself at smaller stores but not at chain stores although many times I've asked the kid to hand over the bag after several awkward attempts to tie it up resulting in a flacid bag with the fish squished in a corner.

My male is out begging for food all the time but not quite as owner responsive as a midas or my jags. I've tried to breed him twice and both times ended up with dead females. They can do a lot of damage VERY quickly with those teeth and the victims are usually severly ripped up.

Every firemouth I've owned that picked a fight with another fish ended up dead or with a badly damaged mouth. On the other hand, my old convicts use to hold off three 8" oscars without any problems.

Yours will probably retain more of the black patterns and the colours will intensify. This is what mine looked like at about 1.5". Poor colors and not much black. Chris

I think that's a good sign. If your fahaka had internal parasites he'd probably have a sunken stomach after 5 days. You seem to be feeding him a good diet. Frozen market shrimp and squid are good to keep in the freezer if you're looking for more frozen options.

Nice EBJD's guys! Here's my little 4" JD. I think it's a male but not sure. He eats like a pig but grows slowly. He's gone from 1" to his current size in 6 months. Chris
