Do I have ich or velvet??

It’s been a long time since I’ve had either and have recently come back to the hobby after a hiatus. I’ve read a bunch of stuff here and online but to me, pics are better than descriptions so here are some pics. Let me know what you all think and what meds you may recommend. Thanks all. Happy...

    Styrofoam under tank

I personally wouldn't use any foam. As long as everything is level, according to your description you are fine.

    My wife is pretty cool......

My wife has been cool but is pretty much done with upgrades. She did make a bad deal (for her) with me. I told her I would never have more aquariums than I have right now (9). So I just keep making them bigger. Example, I replaced a 55 with a 180. I then did away with a 20 and replaced it...

How big of a tank do you call "big?"

180 + I would consider big. However, once you go over 8' X 3' it is XL (Xtra big?). Of course there are all sorts of enormous tanks beyond that.

    DIY stand for a stand

The blocks I am using are two high but they are about the same height as a concrete/cinder block when stacked on top of each other. They are solid unlike the concrete block. Total height is 5-6" so it shouldn't be top heavy.

    DIY stand for a stand

I usually over-do things myself. I guess I am just trying to save money....so many blocks, so many tanks. I think I am going to go with 12 blocks per aquarium stand. Two blocks high X 3 "legs" on front and back. In a clockwise fashion starting from the back middle, it would be 2 on top of...

    DIY stand for a stand

That seems like an obvious answer. However the prior owner (my parents) have already spent 8k trying to fix it. The blocks have been tarred and papered on the outside (basement dug up), the lot has been graded, drains have been added, and sumps have been added. The inside has been sealed...

Clown Knife with Tire Track eel?

All have different dispositions so there is no "right" answer, but this seems like a pretty safe combo

gold nugget or royal...what do you guys suggest?

I like both. I have both. Driftwood is a must. The royal is hardier and gets larger. Gold nugget not as hardy, striking in appearance when larger though. I keep veggies for my gold nugget and the temp is around 83F. Royal in community about 78F. Both are about a year old.

    Silicone seal failing?

I wouldn't be too worried about it. Missing pieces is time taking its toll. Yours doesn't look to bad though. Let's remember that some discoloration of silicone is caused by different chemicals that may have been added to the water. (previous owner)?
