I have a redtail and Niger cat, both around 22" long, and a megalodoras uranoscopus about 12" that need to find new homes. Niger has been housed with the red tail and has started getting bullied recently. Looking a little thin and some fin damage. All are eating kens fish large sinking pellets.

What's the powerhead supposed to accomplish? Move solid waste toward your filter intake? Provide additional circulation for fish that prefer fast water? What's the current filtration setup? What size and type are the "good size fish?"
Your original question and taste is like asking if it's wrong to keep domesticated dogs while you keep a wild caught wolf in a cage. I'm not of the opinion that keeping fish is wrong but if keeping a weak fish is wrong it's more wrong to keep a fish with a high potential and stifle it.

Unless the fluval hose is far from a standard size you should be able to work this out using imperial sizes. Seems a lot of folks use 1"ID hose on their FX5s so it shouldn't be too difficult
