Lowly tinfoil barbs getting their own thread...

The Altus I’ve kept in the past did reach a good size. Never keep schwanenfeldii though, so can’t compare size for those.

What are your guys favorite bichirs and why, also what is the most active type of bichir?

Toss up between delhezi and ornate. , not sure I could pick one over the other. Delhezi’s were more active than the ornates.

Incisilabeo behri, Bangana behri, Labeo behri, dolphin-head or bump-head or jungle labeo at Fish Story

To be fair, I never got a firm ID on them. The lighter one had developed a bigger hump than it has in the pic. The darker one never had a hump. It was the darker one that beat the black shark.

Incisilabeo behri, Bangana behri, Labeo behri, dolphin-head or bump-head or jungle labeo at Fish Story

Had a couple of type of bangana, the last one was fine for years, then one night turned on the black shark and nearly killed her. Had to hospitalise the black shark, and in the meantime, move the bangana on. It was a shame, as the bangana was pretty cool.

Help need in new pond filter design

Do you mean install a bottom drain to the pump, or just have a pipe coming over the edge of the pond to the pump? If the 2nd, the only thing to consider is the priming of the pump when first switched on, when the pipe doesn’t have water in it. Not all pumps are self priming, so it would just sit...

Purple labeo, a hippo-sucking aquarist nightmare from Africa

+1 with that. Mine was a psycho, and I had to get rid in the end.

Hypsibarbus wetmorei, the golden belly barb, lemon fin barb, or lemon barb

They are great fish. Only care issue I had with the ones I had (about 14” in size) were that they were very sensitive to low oxygen levels. In a power cut, they were the first to suffer, and how I lost a couple.

    Black shark - Labeo chrysophekadion - 1 for 3; ~10" presently

Great video. Wish I had those kinda facilities Funny you should mention the giant gourami, I’ve had a couple of red finned GG, they were both complete a-holes once they reached a foot. To be honest, not entirely sure what the other two labeos are, and I’d moved on three other types over the...

    Black shark - Labeo chrysophekadion - 1 for 3; ~10" presently

Two other labeo species in there too, although to be honest, not that lively a set of fish.

    Black shark - Labeo chrysophekadion - 1 for 3; ~10" presently

Great update, coming along nicely Nearly lost mine this year, the bangana nearly got the better of her. Had to isolate her for three months so she could heal/recover. Needless to say the bangana was moved on. As much as I loved the bangana, having had the black shark 24+ years, no fish could...

Looking for some Apollo Shark information and talk

Kept these a few times, great fish and not had any issues with aggression, although they were the smallest fish by quite a way in the tank, and no other upper level fish other than the chalceus’s in there. They loved daddy long legs/crane flies being dunked in the tank. They gulp them down with...

    Dolphin barbs

I had one a few years back, probably 11" to 12" or so in size. Didn't cause any issues, although that may be due to the fact it was dwarfed by the black shark, who was boss in the tank. Didn't need anything special, and at whatever went in tank.

    Fish ID?

Unfortunately, as adults, they lose the colour and stripes, and turn pretty nasty :(

    Black shark - Labeo chrysophekadion - 1 for 3; ~10" presently

Very nice black shark. I’ve been fairly lucky with mine, she’s not massively aggressive, and tends to leave most stuff alone. Only really chasing the other labeo’s and bangana.

ha-ha, thanks man. That's why, no matter what I've tried in with her, if they cause any problems, they are gone.
