Time and size at maturity is relative to the fish. Each one is different, there are only guidelines..We dont know exactly how old the fish is, so thats basically out the window. When you see your male making practice passes, he is learning and getting better everytime..

It took my pair 4 tries before they got it right. Patience is key! I thought my male was infertile for the longest time lol. I almost got rid of them when I decided to give them one more chance and voila! And they even got it wrong afterwards, so IMO, I think they just need to mature..

I always guestimate. I count out ten and imagine them in groups of 10. Probably the most inaccurate way to count, but i get a good estimate lol. besides i dont count them unless they reach a certain size..
