I would make the top overflow to the bottom and the bottom to a large sump which will pump watwr back to the top tank. I think it will be too difficult to balance the right flow with canisters.

Tank still cycling. I'm on vacation at the moment though so nobody to dose with amonia. Hope some bacteria still survive. I'll update when I finally get some.

Badass pond. I'm thinking of buidling an above ground pond next spring in my backyard. 10'x8'x???. Would that be suitable for putitora? Also did you buy them as babies or fairly big already? Not sure I want to go the koi route and want something that will survive bay area winters.

I dump them in right away as long as temp is close. Better in my tank than in a small ass bag filled with the fishes own waste and amonia that's been building up.

A blend would be fine. As to the exact percentages of the blend I'm no expert and will leave that to the more knowledgeable to answer.

Keep the ac and add a fx5 or 6 or even an odyssea

They do if you get the 100 micron ones. Careful as they need to be changed quite often. I'd have to change mine every few days depending on if I was power feeding or not.
