    Tropheus Question

Couple of things, first, they are Ikola. There is black on the dorsal, and I found the email from when I got them. I bought them at around a half inch size 18 months ago and they are probably all closer to 3 inches, not 2-3. But they do seem a little small, I had some years ago that seemed to...

    Where to find Demasoni?

Considering the blizzard it may be too far, but if you check the GCCA classifieds you may find something. You could always put a wanted ad up too and try to find someone closer to Madison. http://www.gcca.net/classifieds/classified.php/listing/27305

    Tropheus Question

Not sure on the type, if I could get a pic to turn out I would post one. PH was 8.4 though. Comparing pics on the web, I would bet they are ikola.

    Tropheus Question

Although I haven't seen any fry, they are constantly doing the spawning dance, so I am not sure if they have actually spawned. As for food, I feed them spirulina flake and New Life Spectrum cichlid formula only. I will check ph and try to get a picture up asap. I am the worst fish...

    Tropheus Question

Hello all, I have a group of 20 Kaiser II Tropheus I have had for about 2 years. I have had zero casualties (knock on wood) but they still haven't colored up as much as I thought they would be by now. They are 2-3 inches in size and only two or three males are showing their yellow very...

    Best Pleco for Tropheus Tank?

I have a 75 gallon that I am going to move my 20 or so 1" Ikolas into shortly, I know that Tropheus love eating algae off of rocks, but does anyone have any suggestions on a pleco to help keep the algae off of the glass. I have used bristlenoses before, but I am looking for something different...

    Silly Cycle Question

So, I gather I should do the following...Set up new Cannister on new tank, put used bio wheel HOB on new tank. Put new HOB on old tank with existing HOB. Test water frequently, and the last and most difficult part, be patient? In a couple of weeks I can move my fish into the 75.

    Silly Cycle Question

I have 2 Filters on the 55, an Emporer 400 and 280, it had a huge fishload at one point, leaving the 400 on the 55, will I still see the mini cycle?

    Silly Cycle Question

Ok, I have a 55 gallon up and running, has been for 5 or 6 years. Nitrates and Ammonia are 0. I am setting up a 75 this week and I am wondering if I move one of my HOB filters to the new tank along with some of the substrate and shells, how long will the cycle take? As a kid I did this all...

    Tangs for a 20L

    J. Transciptus is a small Tang that should work in tank that size, n. lelupi might be another option, I kept a breeding pair in a 29 before. But like with anything else, you start small and end up going bigger and bigger as you want to add more species. My two cents.

75 gallon from empty to stocked...need help..

Went with the shop light actually, the tank is set up behind a wall, so it should work perfectly. Got my 3m Colorquartz today, along with some rocks and stuff, so I hope to have water in it by Saturday and pics up soon. BTW I think I am going to go with a tropheus colony instead of mbunas. I...

Where can I get black sand substrate?

I just bought 2 bags of the color quartz black today (T Grade) near Chicago. It was only $18.75 per 50lbs. I would definately look for it near you, it is very affordable, and it is almost the exact consistency of a crushed coral I used in my 55 like 8 years ago for Africans.

Where can I get black sand substrate?

If you google 3m's website, they have a search engine to find a local distributor of color quartz. It should cost around $20 for a 50 lb bag.

75 gallon from empty to stocked...need help..

Water is rock hard from the tap, so that is not an issue, I kept a dozen or so kaiser tropheus in a 55 for about 4 years with no issues until they went wacko and started picking each other off. As far as the substrate, I am going to do the ever popular black pool filter sand, and I am...

75 gallon from empty to stocked...need help..

Ok guys, I am in the process of setting up a 75 gallon Mbuna tank in my basement. It is completely empty now, I plan on getting it going in the next couple of weeks and just wanted to avoid any screw ups if I can. First off, I am thinking of using the following for filtration, a Fluval 305, and...
